Marsh fern: This is a common species in the state found in swamps and marshes but seldom in standing water; Petioles (stems): are exceptionally long; in late June fertile fronds rise above earlier sterile fronds (tallest among tall vegetation to seek light) 18"-3'. Sori (holding reproductive spores) are uniformly spaced and protected by am inrolled margin. Spreads by creeping rhizomes.
