This is a common fern of swamps and very wet soil (sometimes standing in water) throughout the eastern states.
Marsh Fern: The blade is short compared with the very long stipe or stem. In sun, ferns by this North Wilton pond were 2-3’ tall. Along the two fertile fronds at right, the sori can be seen following the incurved margins.
