Catalpa, Candle or Bean Tree: White flowers are purple-tinged or spotted; the inflorescence is a showy panicle. (Flowers brown in drying.) The leaves are opposite or whorled in 3's entire or heart-shaped. The wood is used for fence posts; the bark is scaly and solid pith is whitish. Long cigar-like pods may be 8-18" in length.
