Butterfly—weed: The orange milkweed is not common in Connecticut. The corolla may vary in color from orange to red or yellow. The inflorescence is flat—topped with umbels in a terminal corymb; this flatness is attractive to butterflies as a landing platform. The nectar of milkweeds is also favored by these insects. Butterfly—weed may be propagated by seed or by root.cuttings (2" sections of tubers.)
