Winged Sumac, Black, Shinbing, or Dwarf: a common 4-10' shrub. Midrib bordered by thin wings. Now as downy in aspect as the very velvety Staghorn Sumac. Twigs have raised dots. Trunk dark and smooth with raised cross streaks (lenticels). Species name refers to production of copal.
