A perennial sedge, up to 70cm tall; leaves flat, 0.1 ?" 1.2cm wide; inflorescence is a cluster of many linear-shaped spikelets up to 3cm long each, simple to compound. A few long, leaf like bracts grow at the base of the spike. Scales golden with green midribs, keeled; spikelet axis winged.
